In December 2022, our X2 Member, Integral Chile was contracted to move a 76-ton dryer from a supplier in Talcahuano, in the south of Chile to its customer in Mexico. However, the task wasn’t that simple, as everybody in logistics knows.
There were indeed some vessels operating from nearby ports but no vessel was suitable to carry such heavy machinery and this presented a big problem. Integral Chile’s Project Cargo team however rose to the occasion and came up with a solution, designing a multimodal option, that consisted of delivering the dryer by ground to Valparaíso port, a 500 km trip, so it could be shipped to Houston and then to the Mexican buyer, meeting the customer’s schedule.
Prior to moving the unit, the supplier had to modify the dryer's specifications more than once. Special permission and police escort was required to move the oversized cargo and a few precious days were eaten up waiting for the local authority’s permission.
A vessel was booked to coincide with the dryer’s arrival at the port and due to good planning, the cargo finally departed from the supplier to Valparaíso in a modular truck, with an auxiliary vehicle. The convoy was joined by Integral Chile’s senior staff who arrived in Valparaíso in time for the truck to enter the port, where documentation was completed and the 76-ton unit was safely loaded onto the vessel.

This special shipment arrived within the customer’s planned schedule due to The Integral Chile team finding a solution to an initial problem, and getting it done, on time and in perfect condition. Arrival at Valparaíso Port on Dec 20th, cargo loaded into the vessel on Dec 23rd.
